A couple of days ago I did a Windows ME reload using the OEM CD that came with my computer. Now when I try to install AR6 after downloading it from the Adobe site I get (in this order as I go through the install wizard): 'The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Adobe REdaer 6.0.1.msi in the box below' The box contains this: C: WINDOWS CACHE ADOBE READER 6.0.1 ENUMIN Clicking Try Again with the box as it stands brings up: 'The path 'C: WINDOWS CACHE ADOBE READER 6.0.1 ENUMIN Adobe Reader 6.0.1.msi' cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package 'Adobe Reader 6.0.1.msi' in a folder from which you can install the product Adobe Reader 6.0.1' When I give up and click Cancel I get 'Error 1714: The older version of Acrobat Reader 6.0.1 cannot be removed.

Contact your technical support group'. I have searched the Adobe site in vain (obviously downloading their.pdf files is impossible) and would be grateful for any help. Hi, Most OEM Windows ME installs include an older version of Acrobat.did you uninstall that first? OR: Try changing the path to the actual location of the.msi file-it may be in your Temp folder. Try the StartFind, files or folders and search the C: drive for the exact file name, or type.msi to have it find all.msi files.locate the correct one by date/time in properties.and see if the path to that file is what is showing in the box when you are installing, switch it to the correct location if need be. Are there any user profiles set up or anything that would restrict you from installing what you want to? You may have better luck running the installer from Safe Mode: if you need help with Safe Mode, let me know.

Have you been all through this info. Byteman - thanks for your reply. The only.msi files I Find are: msi.dll msi.mfl msi.mof Adobe Reader 6.0.1 (which is the installer package) During my failed install: The 'Use feature from: dialog box as it stands reads: 'C: WINDOWS CACHE ADOBE READER 6.0.1 ENUMIN ' When I Search for 'Adobe Reader 6.0.1' it is here: C: Windows Cache Adobe Reader 6.0.1 ENUBIG But when I replace ENUMIN with ENUBIG in the 'Use feature from:' box in the install wizard I get the error message (as noted above): 'The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Adobe Reader 6.0.1.msi' in the box below' I already looked at the Adobe support pages (including the one you quoted - ) but nothing there seemed to address the problem. I went back again after getting your reply and tried manually uninstalling versions 6, 5, and 3, but nothing doing. I may not have understood how to find the right file path, but with no Adobe stuff (apart from the new download) showing up on a search, I can't see how a file path would exist anyway.

As I recall my O/S did not have Adobe Acrobat installed - I downloaded v.5 and went to v.6 without problems previously. I did not uninstall AR prior to reloading O/S. It was not on the Add/Remove progs list before I tried the new download though. Hi, Here are some things that could help you- The download is for Win ME, 95, 98- Another thing that may help, and which you probably will need anyhow: Get the two downloads shown at above. They are for installations of certain programs, and may help you in the future, even if they do not solve the Adobe problem.

Simply install, you may then delete the download, and you may install from the desktop. For the problem with AR: One suggestion I read said to move the installer (you could also re-download the whole thing but this time.have it download TO the desktop, run the install from there. That message may mean that your hard drive is shared. If the computer is networked.can you un-share the drive and try the install? (It's fairly simple right click in My Computer the C: drive and select Sharing, untick Shared As to Not Shared.) I really don't know what else to try.did you try from Safe Mode-didnt see your answer to that query.? Hi Byteman - Had a measured amount of success with the following: I reinstalled the AR that worked before my Windows ME reinstall (kept the installer on CD). Turned out to be AR v.5.0.5 and - you were right - it did come bundled with the computer.

I had updated to AR6 before reinstall. I say 'measured success' because I have not yet tried to uninstall AR5 and replace it with AR6, but that now looks feasible as I can access the uninstaller from Add/Remove Programs. When I do it (soon), I'll post results here. Didn't try Safe Mode because I haven't had time - hope it won't be necessary to do so now - but apologies for not mentioning.

Thank you again for your help. I too got the adobe error 1714 trying to install version 7 after uninstalling version 6. I got v.7 to finish installing after I deleted the following 3 registry keys. The first is from adobe. It seems I can't post the url so google the following '329603 site:adobe.com'.
